Reflecting
When I fell asleep
I had nightmarish dreams
Repeating over and over
It’s not as real as it seems
I dreamt of a dead body
No eyes, no tongue, hair matted down
Not loved, not buried
Left where it couldn’t be found
Lost its life and voice
Left hanging, decrepit and decaying
The clothes that remained
Both torn and fraying
I thought to run and hide
Instead stood staring
Me and it side by side
A cautious step closer
So I could better see
When I raised my hand
Its hand rose with me
I found there not a corpse
But a mirror to be.
